A mission, from the Latin word missum (meaning "sent"), is defined as a duty that involves fulfilling a request. Mission may also refer to:
- Space mission, a physical exploration of outer space objects (see space exploration)
- Diplomatic mission, a diplomatic outpost in a foreign territory
- Christian mission, a movement or outpost of Christian proclamation of the faith
- Mormon missions, movements established by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in which its Mormon missionaries proselytize.
- The geographic region they proselytize in is also called a Mission
- Mission (station), a name for the location of missionary practice, often associated with the displacement of local people during the process of colonisation
Mission is often used to refer to the outposts established as instruments of colonization by Spanish friars throughout much of the New World.
- Mission District of San Francisco, California, derives its name from such an establishment, the Mission San Francisco de Asís. See also Spanish missions in California and Spanish missions in Mexico, among others
- Mission High School (San Francisco) in San Francisco, near the Mission District and Mission San Francisco de Asis, and named due to this proximity, is sometimes referred to as "Mission"
- Missions or Missões (in Portuguese) is a term used to refer to a historical region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil and also to a group of mission communities established by Jesuit priests (see Paraguayan born Padre Roque Gonzales de Santa Cruz) in the sixteen hundreds among the ancient Guarani people who inhabited and continue inhabiting (although in much smaller numbers) the region today. There were seven of these missions on what is today's Brazilian territory. Presently a few mission ruins still remain standing and are being preserved; the best example being São Miguel das Missões)
- Missions or Missões (in Portuguese) also is the name of a region located in today's state of Rio Grande do Sul, roughly occupying the same area previously dominated by the colonial missions. See also the names of cities in the Missões region: Guarani das Missões, São Paulo das Missões, Campina das Missões, etc. These communities are by and large the result of modern European colonization and where German dialects such Riograndenser Hunsrückisch, Polish, Italian (Talian), Russian are still practiced informally.
