The term lotus has a variety of uses. It may refer to:

Plants:

• Indian, Red or Sacred Lotus, a sacred plant of Hinduism and Buddhism and of the Ancient Egyptian civilisation, widely used in Asian cuisine (varieties generally bear either reddish/pink or distinctly red flowers); and the American Lotus, a yellow flowering water-lily: the only two plants in the botanical genus Nelumbo (family Nelumbonaceae)
• Lotus, or 'Trefoil Lotus', a plant genus in the subfamily Faboideae in the family Fabaceae
• White Lotus, or 'European White Waterlily', of the genus Nymphaea (family Nymphaeaceae); a white flowering water-lily of Europe, North Africa and parts of Asia. Similar in appearance to the 'White Egyptian Waterlily' 'Nymphaea lotus which grows naturally only in Africa.
• Blue Lotus, also called 'Egyptian Blue Lotus' or 'Blue Waterlily', of the genus Nymphaea (family Nymphaeaceae).
• Lotus-eaters of the Odyssey are thought to have eaten a species of jujube, Ziziphus lotus; this could be the Lotus Tree that the mythological Lotis had been transformed into.
• "Lotus" also occurs in the common, or cultivar, names of numerous unrelated plants.
