Falcon's Eye is a graphical version of NetHack. It features isometric graphics whereas NetHack was a two-dimensional text-based game. The simple fact that Falcon's Eye has graphics causes it to be looked down upon by NetHack fans who liked things textual the way they were.

If you are considering playing Falcon's Eye it is recommended to look into the much more recent Vulture's Eye instead. The Falcon's Eye project has not been active since 3rd July, 2001 with the release of 1.9.3 and is still based on a much older NetHack. The author still claims he is working on the project; nonetheless, the lack of any signs of further development work in several years led to the creation of a fork: Vulture's Eye. However, some developers have released at least one unofficial update since then; version "1.9.4a", for instance, is in the portage tree.
