Europa Universalis II is historical grand strategy video game for personal computers. The game was created by Paradox Interactive. It is the sequel to Europa Universalis. The game's premise is that a player takes control of a nation with the purpose of directing its political, economic, and military action through history. The game remains largely the same as its predecessor, though with several enhancements, including the ability to play as any nation in the game, and an expansion of the timeframe (1419 through 1820). The game includes a variety of scenarios, which allow players to operate within various timeframes.
One of the game's attributes is its ability to be easily edited through modifying the text-files that determine the parameters of countries and scenarios. This characteristic has allowed the creation of an active modification community.
