Silent Storm is a turn-based man to man strategy game for the PC, developed by the Russian-based company Nival Interactive and published by Jowood Productions in 2003. The player commands a special ops team of six elite soldiers on either side of World War II, undergoing a variety of missions in different theatres. The characters have RPG elements in the form of improving statistics, experience levels and feats.
Once the player begins the campaign either on the axis or allied side, they may select a premade character or create their own to lead the team throughout the game. Once the introductory mission is complete, the player can access a base complete with a medical station, armory, personel management, and a panzerkein hanger (Unlocked later in the game). From this point, the player may select a team of up to six soldiers including medics, snipers, scouts, grenadiers, and engineers. Each class has a special ability that comes in handy in many missions. The armory may seem bare when the player first visits it, but as the player progresses through the game, the armory will recieve new weapons for the player to use. Players may also loot fallen enemies during any mission or random encounter.
On one hand Silent Storm depicts the weaponry and equipment of 1943 with great detail, while on the other it diverges entirely. Mixed into otherwise realistic elements is a plot that features secret weapon projects reminiscent of SpyFi. Most notable are the Panzerkleins (German for "small tanks"), primitive powered armor suits.
