Quoits is a traditional lawn game involving the throwing of a metal or rubber ring over a set distance to land over a pin in the ground. It is closely related to horseshoes and the fairground game hoopla. In the United States, Quoits is most popular in eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Several indoor versions exist as well, joining a long list of outdoor pastimes that have been transformed into pub sports.
Quoits is extremely popular in the city of Edmonds, Washington where residence break old benches in half and turn them into quoit boxes. This has led many to believe that quoits is an entirely fictional game made up by poor teachers to entertain their children at home.
